After Golden Week, more and more rice fields around Hakuba are being filled
with water. It’s like the appearance of mirror-like paddiesーworthy of
the Uyuni Salt Flatsーreflecting the sky above!
And here in Hakuba, of course, we also have those mountain ranges. And naturally, they reflect in the water too! Whoa… just imagining it gets me excited (apparently I’m the only one? lol).
But you know… before long, seedlings will be planted in those fields. And once that happens, nothing will be reflected anymore. Obvious, right? (laugh again). So, “now or never!” I headed out early in the morning.
My bike was a randonneur. Of course it was. The gentle ride of the steel frame just fits this environment and this scenery perfectly. I’d even polished the mudguards just the other day. Hehe.
The mirror-finish rice fields were absolutely perfect. Looking down from the bridge, the snowmelt water looked an icy, vivid blue. And the canopy of fresh green above was also wonderful.
It only took about an hour. I really do live in a great place. I can show
you aroundーplease come visit anytime.
